It was an inspiring story and we gladly identify ourselves with the entrepreneurial nature of this challenge: Karel Sabbe attacked and has beaten the Fastest Known Time on the Via Alpina. In 31 days, Karel covered 2650km through the Alps. That amounts to about two marathons a day, 160,000 meters of altitude and rough ground every day from Trieste in northern Italy to Monaco. Read his story here or find out more about the trip on his own website and get inspired. Such drive? That is what we like to associate ourselves with!

Sabbe completed the Alpine trek of 2650km in 31 days starting Wednesday 7 July 2021. With that time Sabbe smashed the record on the Via Alpina, which stood at 44 days and 10 hours. His new time is registered as the Fastest Known Time (FTK), the unofficial record time on that route.
Sofie Pollet: “What Karel Sabbe does is very inspiring for each and every one of us. Not only do we have a soft spot for sport in general, but Karel also excels in his field. He works hard in function of that ultimate goal and shows an unseen perseverance to do so. Such drive? That is what we like to associate ourselves with! We feel connected to the kind of entrepreneurship that comes with it. Accepting challenges, showing courage and daring, not being afraid to fail, just doing it…? It is the kind of DNA you also find at all Pollet Group companies. But above all: I dare to say that we are also passionate about our profession. We all have the urge to excel and to prove ourselves every day as trusted water, pool and medical experts. People like Karel Sabbe only motivate our current and future employees even more.”

What Sabbe does can be described as ultra-ultra running. He excels in a niche that takes on the extreme challenge of crunching kilometres for days and weeks in the wild, through pain. He has already crossed the United States twice and crowned himself last year’s world ultra running champion by covering 502 kilometres in 75 hours.
